Jack Keenan of Stevens Point, WI is a book / journal maker. His hand-bound books incorporate various fabrics, waxed thread and acid-free drawing paper.
Jack grew up in the Driftless, exploring the outdoors and crafting obsessively. He continues to nurture his creative side through traditional art, textile work, bookbinding, hide-tanning and leather work.
Jack describes his work and process:
I primarily work with canvas in a utilitarian fashion or traditional 2-D media. Making sketchbooks is a perfect bridge between these interests, incorporating the feel and durability of canvas with drawing and sketching. I enjoy the repetitive, technical nature of making books; it is a quiet, careful task that results in a very personal object. I use acid-free 60 lb drawing paper (suitable for dry media and pen/ink), various fabrics, and waxed linen thread.
