Paul Bergquist
Painter
Paul Bergquist began drawing and painting as a boy, following his father's guidance in watercolor and drawing technique. He had several inspiring art teachers in high school who encouraged him to continue training in art. However, outside of one watercolor course in college, it was not until his late 40's that he picked up a paintbrush again. He was initially urged to do so by a Native American healer, Rebecca Dawnkeeper, who, without knowing anything about him, told him it was time to return to painting again. He subsequently took an eight day course in oil painting with Kathie Wheeler, and was captivated by the meditative process of painting. This was a welcome change from the life of a physician, his chosen livelihood to that point. He has since joined a group of plein air artists who meet weekly to paint from life. Capturing the light and feeling of the moment and place is a continual source of inspiration.
