Jewelry
I love things that escape from the box, that wander over the edge, that make friends with someone they are not supposed to. When a friend invited me to join her in taking a metalworking class, I was thrilled to find that I could create art by joining a variety of bits of metal, tin, beads, and leather in interesting combinations by riveting, wrapping, and tying all the bits together. There didn’t seem be any rules or limits other than finding balance and beauty amongst the components. In addition, there are technical challenges that keep the work interesting.
Each piece of jewelry I create is born from contemplation of and appreciation for all the materials involved. I like to start with a single piece that catches my eye and then add on to it until I see the final piece emerge. Sometimes a story or humorous moment jumps out of a piece.
I live just outside of Viroqua, WI, a small, rural town that is full of talented, artistic people. I am filled with inspiration every day as I walk through town observing so many people wearing local artwork. I am happy to be able to contribute to the color of the landscape with my jewelry.
