Meet Artisan Market Artist Suzanne McNiel!

Suzanne McNeil from Iowa City, IA constructs sculptures from found pieces of metal.  Her whimsical pieces include embellishment bits, such as beads, feathers, stones and metal.

A Short Biography by Suzanne:

I am a retired art teacher who has taught K - 12. Observing how student’s work has influenced my approach to creating. My art has the "world is not perfect quality" of working with whatever is available and recycling. These sculptures speak to me in an "I am enough as I am" through their composition, humor and joyful being.

Suzanne describes her work and process:

While walking I scour the ground for discarded, broken or squashed pieces of metal to use as body parts for my figures. These become the basis of my sculptures with the embellishment of other recycled bits including beads, wire, feathers, stones and metal. The body parts determine the direction the sculpture takes rather than my having a predetermined idea of the final piece.
